To help you start on the process of conquering your stump, we have written this post to answer the questions like “what is the difference between stump grinding and stump removal?” Also, any other questions that might be leaving you, well, stumped.

Here is the difference between stump removal and stump grinding:

Like we said, most people who have a yard they care about will not want to pursue stump removal. That is because stump removal entails extracting the stump and all of the roots attached to it. As a result, you are going to need a Bobcat or some other heavy-duty piece of equipment. Additionally, the roots of your tree may have spread out across half the yard.

So, you may end up churning through much of the soil on your property. Mainly, property owners only pursue full-on stump removal if they are clearing a lot for building; in that case, the aesthetics don’t mean enough.

On the other hand, Stump grinding is a much more manageable route for homeowners because it does not involve removing every tree root. Using the stump grinder like the one pictured below, we will grind the stump and essentially shave the remaining tree trunk until it is gone. By definition, a stump is left of the tree trunk, and that remaining tree trunk spreads into the ground. So, if you have the stump ground down will leave your yard with a hole, but one that is far less large than if you went the stump removal route.

Hopefully, you understand how stump removal and stump grinding is apart from each other. But this kind of jobs requires a professional arborist. That is the only person who can do this job perfectly.
